Who We Are
May 2013
Greetings!
Websites are so much part of daily life. To “Google” for information on organizations, products, news, vacation spots, etc. is for many contemporaries a daily practice. Thanks to iPad and Smart Phone applications, for example, a person does not have to sit in front of a computer to do the research. In this day and age we are so used to real time responses, thanks to technology. We enjoy communicating with family members and friends via messenger applications, Skype or the traditional phone.
You have found the pages of the Missionary Benedictines of Christ the King Priory in Schuyler, NE. It is my hope that you will find the information that you are looking for.
In late April we had visitors from Michigan and Canada who found their way to Nebraska by way of the internet, both parties having done research for retreat houses. These guests told us that they liked what they read on our webpages. One specific attraction for them was the option to participate in the prayer life of the Benedictine community and that we are part of the international group of Missionary Benedictines.

As “Mission Procurator” it is my job is to keep in contact with the mission offices of our monasteries represented on five continents and in over 20 countries. Our activities in reaching out to the less fortunate and providing assistance with major projects is coordinated by the Conference of Mission Procurators of the Congregation of St. Ottilien, a group of approximately 10 to 15 representatives who meet twice each year to review applications for help and to hear first-hand reports from confreres following official visits to Africa and Asia. These visits help to monitor projects supported by donations of our benefactors and provide the accountability reports.
As you check through the various tabs on the website of the mission office you will find a list of projects that we prioritized as ongoing ministries in need of financial support. I wish to recommend these to the benevolence of our friends and also to future contributors.
THANK YOU for stopping by our webpages. I invite you to give us your feedback, ask questions, and to let us know your prayer requests. We will include these faithfully in our daily prayers as we implore the Lord to shower HIS graces and blessings upon you.
Last, but not least, let me direct you to the current appeal seeking help with reforestation around the mission stations we serve in Africa and also the need for clean water. I trust that you will find the information of help as you consider making a donation in support of this project.
Sincerely yours:
Father Volker Futter, O.S.B.
